The crew behind LA The Darkman, Supreme Team Entertainment, will release a compilation album later this spring on Wu-Tang Records with all new songs from both Wu and non-Wu artists. Besides new cuts from peeps like Raekwon, Mobb Deep and LA, this album will also introduce us to several newcomers within the Wu affilated camp. Common is working on his upcoming album "1999/Like They Used To Say", scheduled to drop this spring on Rawkus Records. The album is said to feature major production from The Roots crew and several appearences by Rawkus artists. Common's first 12-inch off the album, entitled "1999" (f/ Sadat X) will probably also be on the Soundbombing 2 compilation.
J-Rocc & DJ Babu 990331
The first volume of the Rawkus compilation Soundbombing was mixed by Evil Dee. Now, for the Soundbombing 2 album, the mixing will be made by J-Rocc & Babu from The Beat Junkies. As we've reported before, the album will drop on May 18th and here are some of the confirmed artists appearing:

The official Rawkus mixtape of 1999, Soundbombing 2 is coming up. The anticipation is high of this second volume of golden underground material but heads only have a about a month left to wait. Soundbombing 2 will be released on May 18th and will feature artists Shabaam Sahdeeq, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Medina Green, Cocoa Brovaz, Bahamadia, Common and Pharoahe Monch among others. Rawkus Records has also recently set up schedules for an LP with Reflection Eternal (Talib Kweli & DJ Hi-Tek) plus solo albums from DJ Spinna and Mos Def. Also, Company Flow is planning to release a brand new album with only instrumentals.
Tony Touch 990328
Tony Touch has drawn up the plans of releasing a solo full length album on Tommy Boy. Allthough the recording process of the album not yet has started, the album is said to feature a hole bunch of various MC's from NY's underground scene and Touch himself is said to rhyme on a couple of tracks. As more is known about this interesting project, we'll post you on the matter. Right now, Tony Touch has his mixtape "Power Cypha" out where available, a tape featuring more than 40 freestyles. Be sure to pick that up if you can.
Tommy Boy 990324
Since Tommy Boy's new underground sub, Black Label, hasn't been going too well yet, the label is planning to release a compilation album with a mix between old and new cuts. Artists scheduled to participate on the album are Jigmastas, Medina Green, De La Soul, DV Alias Khrist, Defari and others. A newcomer named Aphillyation will be on with his debut "Dry Tears". This compilation will also include the return of the group Natural Elements (heard on the Lyricist Lounge album). After more than two years of silence from this crew, they will be featured on this Black Label compilation with the cut "2 Tons".
New whitelabels out 990324
If you've got the connections, be sure to check out some of the new whitelabels coming your way soon. A real interesting (and rare) one is the Gang Starr affiliated crew from NY's underground scene, Brainsick. There's an EP out now on whitelabel that features 8 unreleased tracks. Be sure to pick that one up if you see it. Also, if you're into Mobb Deep, check out two whitelabels that's out. One features Havoc and P together with Khrist on "Together" and the B-side contains Slick Rick's "Shining Star" and Naughty By Nature's "Dirt By My Lonely". The other one features the Mobb group cut "Young Dimes" and Wu-Tang's "Drunken Master".
Kweli and O.K. 990324
Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek is currently in the studio working on an album with their own duo group Reflection Eternal. Other MC's will also appear but Kweli is said to be featured on most of the tracks on R.E.'s upcoming album "Train Of Thought". Organized Konfusion is involved in a new release from Mr.Complex. Prince Poetry produces his new 12" "Against The Grain" while Pharaoh Monch produces the B-side "I'm Rhymin". Former member of Artifacts, El Da Sensai has plans on dropping his solo album soon. The 12-inch "Frontline" has recently been released and he's also said to be working on more own material together with Organized Konfusion, Street Smartz and Mike Zoot.
Gang Starr 990322
March 23rd is the date to look for if you're interested in picking up Gang Starr's greatest hits album. The compilation celebrating the group's 10th year of existance, "Decade Of Gang Starr", will feature music from all of Gang Starr's five albums. It'll also contain two previously unreleased cuts, including the uptempo "Full Clip" which also is on DJ Clue's recently released mixtape "You Can't Impeach The President". Jeru The Damaja 990322
Jeru The Damaja is currently in the studio, working on the finishing tracks of his upcoming album. This album, Jeru's third, is tentiatived entitled "Dirtier Dan Ever". The LP will not feature any production at all from DJ Premier as the Jeru's previous albums has. Jeru will produce most of the album himself and Group Home is said to maybe doing some production as well. The first 12" to come from Jeru's new album will be "Safe Sex (Billie Jean)".
Loop Troop 990322
A new 12" with Loop Troop is available for purchase. This is a collaboration EP which Loop Troop put together along with reggae collegues Kekke Kulcha and Spoonhead, whom has been featured on material by Loop Troop before. The A-side features Kekke & Spoon on "Schlook From Birth" and "Vinylist". On the B-side, Loop Troop comes through with "Loop Troop Anthem Pt.1" and "The Biggest Hustle".
Boot Camp Click 990322
Black Moon has recently released their album "Warzone" and the album inlay reveales several upcoming releases from Duck Down Records. The compilation "Duck Down Presents The Album" will feature Cocoa Brovaz, The Reps, Black Moon, Illa Noyz, Doc Holiday and other Boot Camp Click affiliates. O.G.C.'s album "The M-Pire X-Back" is also on its way as well as a solo album with Buckshot entitled "The Night". There will also be a greatest hits album by the entire Boot Camp Click coming up soon.
Afu-Ra 990314
Gang Starr affiliate Afu-Ra is scheduled to release his debut album on Gee Street in the beginning of the summer. DJ Premier is the executive producer of the album and he will also assist with production on a few tracks. Other confirmed producers are Beatminerz and Wu-Tang's True Master. Afu-Ra's 12" single, "Whirlwind Thru Cities b/w Trilogy Off Terror" features Guru and Hanibal and is already available for purchase. Afu-Ra's album will also feature guests Masta Killa and M.O.P.
D.I.T.C. 990314
In May this spring, an album will be released that very well could be one of the top 10 underground LP's when we eventually sum up 1999. The indesputable D.I.T.C. crew will drop their album "All Luv" on their self entitled label. Diamond D, Lord Finesse, Showbiz & AG and Fat Joe are said to be sittin' on a hiphop classic here. The album will also feature Big Punisher and "All Luv" is of course one huge dedication in the memory of murdered Big L.
Rawkus 990314
Company Flow seems to be holding their time busy. El-P has made the remix of Roots Manuva's "Next Type Of Motion" and the cut is included on the 12" "Juggle Tings". Mr. Len is currently in the studio working on his own solo project, "Workers Needed Soundsystem". No release date is set yet, even though the album is scheduled for a 1999 summer release. Other upcoming album's from Rawkus are planned with Shabaam Shadeeq, Reflection Eternal, Sir Menelik / Cyclops 4000 and Pharaoh Monche of Organized Konfusion. The Rawkus compilation "Beatminerz Presents" is also an upcoming release.
Loop Troop 990314
Loop Troop's Promoe is planning to release a solo 12", which, except for a Swedish label covering, probably also will be out on a New York label this spring. The title track is "Off The Record" and the cut "Poor Lonesome Homeboy" will also be featured. The production will be handled partly by Sweden's Streetlevel Records staff and New York's Craig-G is said to be appearing on the 12".
Freddie Foxxx 990314
No more twin glocks, but Freddie Foxxx is about to release a new 12", said to be his most roughest work yet. Under the alias Bumpy Knuckles, Foxxx has almighty DJ Premier doing the production of the 12" title track "A Part Of My Life". Beatminerz will produce the b-side "Devious Minds". Both of these cuts will be on Freddie Foxxx's upcoming album, tentiative entitled "Follow Me", scheduled for a spring release on KJAC Entertainment.
Public Enemy 990314
Public Enemy's new album, "There's A Poison Going On", will be available for free download at the group's independent and self-managed website, www.public-enemy.com within two months. It's P.E.'s very critic thoughts of record labels' way of treating hiphop artists that has made Chuck D and the crew taking everything into own hands. Beyond this, Chuck D also have plans to start his own Internet label. He has recently proclaimed that "If I can stream or even download to millions of people, who needs radio? On Black Star's new 12" on Rawkus, "Respiration", you'll find an interesting collaboration on the b-side. Pete Rock has done a remix of "Flying High" and besides the board works from Mos Def & Talib Kweli, the cut also features Black Thought from The Roots.
Kashal-Tee 990314
Swedish underground's most low-keyed, Kashal-Tee, is planning to release his first solo 12" this spring. The title track is "Emasculation" and the production of the originalversion is made by DJ Erase. Kashal-Tee's own DJ, Judge, will handle the remix and another cut that'll be featured on the 12", entitled "Sexpeditions".
Collaboration 990314
It's been known for a while, now it seems like this project will become reality during this spring. Black Thought (The Roots), Jeru Tha Damaja, Common and Pharoe Monch (Organized Konfusion) will get together to make some collective work. The four are said to drop their cuts under proposed names Incredible 4, Immortal Physic Force and Physic Union.
Psycho Realm 990314
B-Real's crew, Psycho Realm has decided not to continue their work. Group member Duke was shot down earlier this year and became paralysed from the neck and down. Both B-Real and Duke's brother Jack, who also is included in the group, has both decided that they will not continue Psycho Realm since Duke can't participate. Psycho Realm's second album, which almost is completed, will still be released as planned later this year.
