' Sola nobilitas virtus '

This is a web site for and about people named Maltês/Maltez. As the title implies it will not only serve as a source of information for those in the family surfing the web and wishing to know more about our relatives, it also intends ultimately to become a point of contact for all people named Maltez. It is for anyone and everyone whose passion has become the search for their ancestors or descendants no matter where they came from or where they live.

My name is José Luís da Silva Maltez,  I grew up in Lisbon but I'm living in Stockholm since 1972. I want you to feel very welcome to these pages that I implemented with the genealogy of my grandfather Sebastião da Silva Maltez, in mind. I'm researching the family tree, and obviously any information regarding the ancestors or siblings with families, of my grandfather Sebastião da Silva Maltez, would be very helpful. This work is in progress and could only be successful with the co-operation of all those, belonging to the family or not, that are willing to share with their knowledge about our branch of the family, through the addition of new features.

Though I have not found yet any records that prove a common progenitor for all the people surnamed Maltez or the leaving of some ancestors of mine from Golegã, to either Brazil or the US,  for that matter. I'm humble however towards the fact that so could have been, having in mind that so many portuguese people left Portugal in the 19th and 20th century, for a better way of life, and made their home in all four corners of the World.

I've been told by well-meaning people that this is all a waste of time, that people don't want to know about their past because that it has no relevance to them. I don't agree at all, I think that everybody feel that knowing ones roots gives a sense of community. So please forward this site for all related people. Furthermore I want to emphasize that the name of each and every living person mentioned in this "genealogical site", have been published with the consent of those concerned.

I strongly recommend a visit on the page of MaltezWorldwide,  to see how the people named Maltez have propagated over the World and over Portugal subsequently, in addition, if your surname is (or was) Maltês/Maltez and you wish to be listed, please feel free to submit your full name in the Formmail page and you will get a password in order to see the list of people surnamed Maltez in your country. I also want to express my very best thanks to my brother António João da Silva Maltez, who has acquired information during several years about our family and so generously has shared with me a large amount of data making it possible for me to implement this exciting project that up untill now has grown to over 1200 people in my database. My gratitude goes obviously even to all those that in a way or other have promoted  this site.

If you catch any error or have suggestions and ideas as to how to develop this site or simply information to add,  please feel free to send me an E- mail. All feedback I can get is of great significance. What this site needs doubtless is full participation by the people concerned. Some projects are underway which will be of interest to anyone committed with this field, so check back from time to time to see for new developments.
