WAVEDISPLAY 1.0 by Lars Ahlzen This tiny program does nothing but display the signal that goes in through your Soundblaster on your screen. You can use for instance CD or line in as source. Use sb16set or whatever to set which one to use. Set the level carefully, turn off all lights in the room and run the program. (n.b. the program assumes that the base address of your soundcard is $220. If it isn't, you have to change in the source and recompile the program with e.g. TurboAssembler.) If everything's OK, you should see the sound displayed on you screen, a little bit like an oscilloscope. Esc will quit the program, and a few other keys will change the way of displaying the sound (a little bit like CTHUGHA, if you've seen it...). 1 Slower frame rate. A very low frame rate can sometimes be nice to look at. Try together with another way of display. 2 Higher frame rate. (the program is set to full frame rate by default.) F1 Set normal display and full frame rate. F2 Set to 'slow' display. The displayed sound will fade out more slowly than normal, like on an LCD screen or a very slow TV. Try it with a slow frame rate. F3 The displayed sound will melt down towards the bottom of the screen F4 Instead of melting down, the display will 'blow' up towards the top left. F5 The display will be smeared to the right. Keypad 1 Set blue palette 2 Set orange palette 3 Set yellow palette 4 Set standard VGA palette (often ugly, but sometimes nice effects, especially together with the 'melt down' mode) OK, that's all keys. I have not tested the program on another computer than my own, and that's a Pentium 120 with a very fast graphics card, so I can't tell you how fast the program runs on a 486, but I don't think it should be too slow. Good luck... any comments can be sent to me, lars.ahlzen@swipnet.se also check out my Soundblaster AWE32 page at http://home2.swipnet.se/~w-26913/awe/awe.htm Lars Ahlzen 970208
